A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over an existing tooth that has been prepared and shaped.
This helps to strengthen, restore and improve the appearance of your natural tooth. A crown is needed when your tooth has been extensively filled, is cracked or broken, when there is not enough tooth structure left for a traditional filling or an inlay/ onlay, or after root canal treatment.
A dental bridge is used when you are missing one or more teeth. A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of a gap, these two anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth and have one or several fake teeth in between them. These fake teeth are called pontics. A dental bridge will prevent the movement of teeth on either side of the space as well as conserve your smile and oral health. To construct a dental bridge, we take an impression of your teeth and send it to our laboratory and they are precision crafted by a qualified dental technician.
Crowns and bridges may be used in conjunction with each other to restore your smile.
There are many types of crowns available depending on different situations.
