Frequently Asked Questions
We are always here to answer your questions.
My gums bleed when I brush is this healthy?
No, bleeding gums can be a sign off gum disease and you should make an appointment to visit us so that we can assess the situation and help to prevent disease. Do not be discouraged from brushing in that area as brushing and cleaning may reverse these effects.
What should I do when I have tooth ache?
If you are suffering from a persistent toothache you should schedule an appointment with our dentist as soon as possible. In the meantime make sure your teeth are clean and debris free, floss between your teeth to remove any left over food particles. A cold compress can be used on the outside of the cheek if any swelling is present.
How will I know if dental implants can be done in my case?
The dental implant exam and consultation will evaluate your mouth with a clinical and x-ray exam in order to determine your potential for dental implants. This exam will also be where you can discuss what type of dental implant replacement will work best for you. The x-ray exam will be able to show how much bone is present in the locations where you will need dental implants placed. The x-ray won’t be able to accurately show bone density.
How long does the Invisalign® treatment take?
The total duration of the Invisalign® treatment depends on the complexity of the case and is generally equal to that of traditional braces. Typically treatment can last between 9 and 18 months. During your consultation, we can provide you with more detailed information.
Are there any restrictions on what I can eat whilst wearing the Invisalign® aligners?
No, unlike traditional wires and braces, you can eat whatever you like while in Invisalign® treatment because you remove your aligners to eat and drink. Thus, there is no need to restrict consuming any of your favourite foods and snacks.
Why do I need root canal treatment?
If you have a damaged tooth, root canal treatment may help to save it. Inside your tooth is soft tissue containing nerves, and blood and lymph vessels, known as the tooth pulp. When the pulp cannot repair itself from disease or injury, it dies. A fracture in a tooth or a deep cavity commonly cause pulp death, as the pulp is exposed to bacteria found in your saliva. When the pulp becomes infected, it is best to remove it before it spreads to the tooth and surrounding tissues. The whole tooth may be lost if the infection is left untreated. Root canal treatment can save your tooth…
Is there any pain when the dental implants are surgically placed?
There should be no pain when the dental implants are placed. In most cases, a local anesthetic is all that is needed.
